There are two ways of doing work. One is the traditional way, which we call hard work, and the second is smart work. Hard work is the work that we do consistently towards a goal without knowing whether we will achieve it or not. Smartly doing work means finding an easy way to do that work without affecting the quality of the work.
Definition: The ability to work with a minimum effort that can produce the maximum outcome by knowing the pros and cons.
Why smart work is necessary:
Smart work saves a lot of time, so you can do other work in a day. You focus on one task at a time.
Smart work gets to work in an organized manner. You will prepare all the resources in advance before starting your work.
Instead of relying on hard work and using improvised ways of working, smart work is a faster method that helps you achieve your goal earlier.
Smart work you do for a limited period, so you don’t feel burned out.
How we can do smart work:
Focus on one task at a time. This will help you save your energy for the other work in the day.
Use the Pomodoro technique, working for 25 minutes on a particular task. After 25 minutes, take a break and close your eyes for 2 minutes or 5 minutes. Then work again.
Turn off all notifications on your phone and computer because this will distract your focus. Set a time for seeing the notification If you think replying to messages or emails is unnecessary, then leave it for that period.
Don’t work on a single task for more than 4 hours, otherwise, you will feel burned out because the human brain can work with full concentration for 4 hours only.
Analyze your day. This will help you know what to do next. If a particular work is not finished, you can analyze it and work properly.
When you think the work you are doing is not so important or you know that you won't be able to finish it because of lack of knowledge, you can give it to another person.
How I apply this to my work
I schedule my day one day before
I work for three to four hours doing important work. For the rest of the work, I give a time slot of 1 to 2 hours.
Keeping my phone out of my eyesight so I can ignore all the notifications, but keeping that application on my computer so I can reply to important people or if that work is important.
Every 25 minutes I take Pomodoro techniques for 1 minute
If the work is not important, then I will give a separate one hour to do that.
I check my mail or notifications at the end of the day which I ignored for the whole day.
Those are my points for smart work. I feel that smart work is very important nowadays because we are living in a competitive world where we need to finish or work fast.
